Since Eli was very lucky to progress so well, he left early, 36 weeks and 3 days gestation age to be exact. He looks quite big in the car seat, but actually Eli was only 4.5 pounds (now closer to 5) at the time. He's still too small for large crowds so his welcoming home party will have to wait. We'll continue to post his progress in the meantime. </div><div><br /></div>Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10768152320182150022noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080332113742698678.post-12501572118250616552010-02-17T16:10:00.000-08:002010-02-17T16:33:27.237-08:00The Beverly Hills of Miller Children's Hospital<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbGAtiGGP2pdAkgG_JlgE6eykCQSaTYi3hWmj-17R27Cio8Fn6uzV-d37gMjOH_MdIrx77vFam1QW7sQ9xhjGJQROGSUuDdV7LKAXZlJbroBPx8OGEhAFLrM-tpDnglKy03EwForP0d80/s1600-h/02172010.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 107px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbGAtiGGP2pdAkgG_JlgE6eykCQSaTYi3hWmj-17R27Cio8Fn6uzV-d37gMjOH_MdIrx77vFam1QW7sQ9xhjGJQROGSUuDdV7LKAXZlJbroBPx8OGEhAFLrM-tpDnglKy03EwForP0d80/s320/02172010.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5439372646266159634" /></a><br /><div style="text-align: center;">Eli has moved once again to what some of the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">NICU</span> nurses call "Beverly Hills." It is the new <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">NICU</span> wing of Miller Children's Hospital. Everything is nice and spic and span and in pristine condition. This will also be the last (hopefully) room Eli goes to before he leaves the hospital. Each of the babies in this wing gets their own little cubicle. It doesn't look like much space in the picture but it is a world of difference. We even get our own rocking chair! Eli is doing great still, he just received some vaccinations and will be weaning from the incubator when he reaches 1800 <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">gms</span>. He is currently 1691 <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">gms</span>. (3lbs 11oz) He's slowly getting there. He just recently started bottle feeding and breastfeeding. Since he is still small he only does it twice a day because it burns so many calories. He needs to build his endurance so that he can eventually take all his feedings without the need of a tube. </div>Elvin Jauriguehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01815511463660064734noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080332113742698678.post-18364583492538565862010-02-11T17:04:00.000-08:002010-02-13T14:33:50.874-08:00Day 61<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_JGz5SCh9Nd8j0QRbaXdmAP7MzghGch1m9YOqqrrZF_hR8WewlseP7BrGpdoq4m_0cEwMeQ6TLt2TGFPH-cT-oxEgB3GGsQ2Y2Z3nHhoTepksnsB8TV0jIore5L8b9ZW4hxj-OdvfmEs/s1600-h/IMG_1874.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi_JGz5SCh9Nd8j0QRbaXdmAP7MzghGch1m9YOqqrrZF_hR8WewlseP7BrGpdoq4m_0cEwMeQ6TLt2TGFPH-cT-oxEgB3GGsQ2Y2Z3nHhoTepksnsB8TV0jIore5L8b9ZW4hxj-OdvfmEs/s320/IMG_1874.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5437857616956386354" /></a><br />Eli is back to his routine of full feedings every three hours. For Eli's weight, which is now 3 1/2 pounds!, a full feeding is 29 ccs almost 1 fluid oz. <div><br /></div><div>His corrected age is now 34 weeks, which is about the time preemies develop sucking and swallowing reflexes. He's been pretty good with the pacifier, so hopefully the transition to bottle feeding goes well. Come next week an occupational therapist will work with with Eli to coordinate breathing, sucking, and swallowing all at the same time. They tend to burn a lot of calories while feeding, so this is usually a slow process starting once a day, progressing to a couple time a days, until all his feedings come exclusively from the bottle. </div>Elvin Jauriguehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01815511463660064734noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080332113742698678.post-54497495371876404112010-02-03T22:26:00.000-08:002010-02-03T22:47:09.525-08:00Update - Day 52<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtmzUYuDhs_evq-S9HPqLPe2qLMx4vAuFkTMMinpyngJDSe6Ut-r3nc8KRDtYjeIeida5OYEy3yoRaw8HPlXH1wGqebi8YW5sS2J9yQyyKcm4GPnJOvRIWTLh_ZTQrnOdw6uhqC2uTAMo/s1600-h/IMG_1760.JPG"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtmzUYuDhs_evq-S9HPqLPe2qLMx4vAuFkTMMinpyngJDSe6Ut-r3nc8KRDtYjeIeida5OYEy3yoRaw8HPlXH1wGqebi8YW5sS2J9yQyyKcm4GPnJOvRIWTLh_ZTQrnOdw6uhqC2uTAMo/s320/IMG_1760.JPG" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5434272646068667762" /></a><div style="text-align: center;"><br /></div><div style="text-align: center;">Lots of updates, sorry for not being able to update as often. When he gets to around 1500 grams they will start trying to get him to maintain his body temp without the incubator. </div>Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10768152320182150022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080332113742698678.post-85211985153380752572010-01-13T11:55:00.000-08:002010-01-13T11:57:38.789-08:00Day 29<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzLYGk9btoygtnvS_n6rG7ZVqukdJdVOiVt3NZ0pZtEfEXjCy_RTPuWd9p1qDnAA0vykyTotvsCMoaiOPJT7Eqvnq2aBGu0HSwCmw5mDBSCP3JXsAVjvwIf086LRjHAOfX5Pe8uNN0Nbs/s1600-h/IMG_1527.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 266px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjzLYGk9btoygtnvS_n6rG7ZVqukdJdVOiVt3NZ0pZtEfEXjCy_RTPuWd9p1qDnAA0vykyTotvsCMoaiOPJT7Eqvnq2aBGu0HSwCmw5mDBSCP3JXsAVjvwIf086LRjHAOfX5Pe8uNN0Nbs/s400/IMG_1527.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5426315861119160770" /></a>Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10768152320182150022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080332113742698678.post-70615904077109614932010-01-12T14:42:00.000-08:002010-01-12T14:54:30.029-08:00Day 28<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9cfZEisxLxm3LZeEl8mxSIpBvgrFGZIuM5nDt7K9qpQx54JyW1jM8fnpFoucy52vwlQ6I7ekc38-Kw8KI-M7grQ6B6gZkQ8H6I6iGmaMpomBRX6xpEpfzqpa8843JucrHwMT68gf_6EY/s1600-h/Untitled-2.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 400px; height: 133px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi9cfZEisxLxm3LZeEl8mxSIpBvgrFGZIuM5nDt7K9qpQx54JyW1jM8fnpFoucy52vwlQ6I7ekc38-Kw8KI-M7grQ6B6gZkQ8H6I6iGmaMpomBRX6xpEpfzqpa8843JucrHwMT68gf_6EY/s400/Untitled-2.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5425990057898004034" /></a><div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="color:#0000EE;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="text-decoration: underline;"><br /></span></span></div>This is Eli's bed. Today the <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">NICU</span> had Santa come and take pictures with each family, so here Eli is wearing a <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">Santa</span> hat, although he is sleeping right through all the excitement!Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10768152320182150022noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4080332113742698678.post-41968326215547678842009-12-17T10:50:00.000-08:002009-12-30T12:38:11.050-08:00Day 3<a onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEtod94JQjoyUlx4wd5tbcbl6bBLdec69MgaO8pDJxQyaFsynclCnO0KZNvfNtHRJ8Q6FmerQSO0QN0hLJcMhZRJz4O6l7hpUHBV7ejYRoOjJabHj7nVQgXo5iHybei4U0M897S8_OWEg/s1600-h/elijah+day+3.jpg"><img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 320px; height: 214px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEtod94JQjoyUlx4wd5tbcbl6bBLdec69MgaO8pDJxQyaFsynclCnO0KZNvfNtHRJ8Q6FmerQSO0QN0hLJcMhZRJz4O6l7hpUHBV7ejYRoOjJabHj7nVQgXo5iHybei4U0M897S8_OWEg/s320/elijah+day+3.jpg" border="0" alt="" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5421128713607627346" /></a>This is Eli on Day 3. What a difference a couple days can make. He looks like a different baby! The hospital says that it is normal for all babies to lose weight the first 2 weeks. So I guess he is losing all his water weight. As you can see in the pictures he goes from being very fussy one minute, to calm and cool the next. Here he is taking a break from the mask he's wearing. The "snorkel" mask is what we like to call it. It delivers O2 and some pressure to help <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">facilitate his breathing. In the last picture he's strapped in to keep him from squirming around too much.</span>Reneehttp://www.blogger.com/profile/10768152320182150022noreply@blogger.com0
